FRANCOPHONIE SHOWCASE - FIACAFI 2026

Ibero-American and African Festival of Film, Audiovisual, Education and Creative Industries

Art. 1 - The Showcase

The Francophonie Diversity Showcase is part of the official programme of FIACAFI 2026, scheduled to take place from 9 to 16 August 2026, and has a competitive character aimed at promoting, disseminating and recognising author-driven and innovative cinematic works originating from Francophone countries and their diasporas.

The Showcase’s central focus is the promotion of Black cinema, Afro-diasporic cinema, Indigenous cinema, women-led cinema and LGBTQIAPN+ narratives, as well as aesthetic proposals committed to cultural, territorial, racial and linguistic diversity.

With the objective of promoting territorial circulation, selected films will be screened simultaneously in the cities of São Paulo, Salvador, Brasília, Porto Alegre, Rio de Janeiro and Belo Horizonte during the festival period.

Art. 2 - Categories

The Francophonie Diversity Showcase will include the following categories:

I - Short Films: works with a minimum duration of 10 minutes and a maximum of 30 minutes, including credits.

II - Feature Films: works with a minimum duration of 70 minutes and a maximum of 120 minutes, including credits.

Works in the genres of fiction, documentary and animation will be accepted, as well as hybrid and experimental proposals.

Art. 3 - Eligibility of Works

Films eligible for submission to the Francophonie Diversity Showcase must meet the following criteria:

I - Works directed or produced by Black, Afro-diasporic, Indigenous, women or LGBTQIAPN+ filmmakers; or

II - Works whose content, theme or aesthetic approach consistently engages with issues related to racial, ethnic, cultural, territorial, gender, sexuality or accessibility diversity.

III - Works produced in Francophone territories or member countries (including France, Belgium, Switzerland, Quebec, Canada, Senegal, Haiti, among others).

A world, international or national premiere is not required, however only works produced or completed between 2019 and 2026 will be accepted.

Art. 4 Language and Accessibility

Only works whose original language is French may be submitted.

It is recommended that films be submitted with subtitles or dubbing in at least one of the following languages:

  • Portuguese

  • Spanish

  • English

 

If the film does not contain these elements, this must be indicated at the time of submission.

Subtitles must be delivered in a separate file, in a format technically compatible with the festival’s specifications, preferably .SRT or .VTT, properly synchronised with the film.

Responsibility for the quality, linguistic accuracy and synchronisation of subtitles lies entirely with the applicant. Selected works that do not provide adequate subtitles within the specified deadlines may have their screening cancelled at the discretion of the organisation.

Whenever possible, the festival encourages submissions including accessible subtitles (SDH) in order to improve access for audiences with hearing disabilities.

Films that include accessibility resources must indicate them during submission.

Art. 5 - Submission

Submissions to the Francophonie Diversity Showcase must be made exclusively in French or Portuguese through the official FIACAFI platform: https://www.fiacafi.com.br/fr/inscription-section-francopho

All deadlines established in these Regulations must be strictly observed.

At the time of submission, the following materials must be provided:

I - Viewing link for the film with password access;
II - Complete technical sheet;
III - Short synopsis and extended synopsis;
IV - Director’s and Producer’s statement of intent;
V - Promotional graphics and publicity stills;
VI - Trailer and making-of link (if available);
VII - Individual photos of the Director and Producer;
VIII - Copyright clearance documentation, where applicable;
IX - Authorisation for screening of the work signed by the Director, Producer or distribution company (attached document).

Art. 6 - Expected Timeline

Submissions: March 16, 2026 – deadline at 11:00 PM on May 30, 2026

Curatorial process: June 2026

Publication of selected works: July 2026

Participation confirmation: July 2026

Official Opening: August 9, 2026

Closing and Awards Ceremony: August 16, 2026

Art. 7 - Curatorial Committee and Selection Process

The selection of works submitted to the Francophonie Diversity Showcase - FIACAFI 2026 will be carried out by a national and international curatorial committee composed of eight (8) professionals from the audiovisual and cultural sectors representing different cultural contexts.

This composition reflects the festival’s commitment to gender equity, diversity of perspectives, aesthetic plurality and international representation, under the joint supervision of the cultural and audiovisual department of one of the Francophone member states’ embassies.

The decisions of the curatorial committee are final, collective and not subject to appeal.

FIACAFI reserves the right to determine the final programme, screening dates, times, formats and venues of the selected works according to curatorial, technical, institutional and logistical criteria.

Art. 8 - Competition and Awards

Works selected for the Francophonie Diversity Showcase will compete for awards defined by the festival organisation, including:

  • Best Francophone Feature Film

  • Best Francophone Short Film

 

Award criteria and values will be announced through the festival’s official channels.

Some awards may include financial support, post-production services, distribution consultancy, participation in international markets, as well as the official FIACAFI statuette - N’Tama, Spirit of Creation.

Art. 9 - Copyright and Screening

By submitting a work, the rights holder authorises its screening within FIACAFI 2026, from 9 to 16 August 2026, in non-commercial in-person screenings.

The applicant acknowledges that the films may be screened simultaneously in the cities of São Paulo, Salvador, Brasília, Porto Alegre, Rio de Janeiro and Belo Horizonte.

The organisation reserves the right to use excerpts, still images, trailers and promotional materials solely for the institutional promotion of the Francophonie Diversity Showcase and FIACAFI 2026.

Art. 10 - General Provisions

Submission of a work implies full, irrevocable and irreversible acceptance of all provisions of these Regulations.

Any omissions or interpretative doubts shall be resolved by the FIACAFI organisation in accordance with principles of good faith, reasonableness, cultural interest and the curatorial criteria of the Showcase.

The organisation reserves the right to modify dates, venues, screening formats or programme for technical, institutional, logistical or force majeure reasons.

These Regulations enter into force on the date of their publication.

Art. 11 - Delivery of Materials and Copies

Complete documentation of the selected works must be submitted to the Francophonie Diversity Showcase Film Department according to deadlines and technical specifications communicated by the organisation.

Applicants must provide a clip from the work for institutional promotional use.

The final DCP or digital screening file must be delivered within the deadlines established and prior to the official opening of the festival.

Failure to deliver the final material within the deadline will result in the automatic exclusion of the work from the programme. If requested, a subtitled DCP must be provided in accordance with the technical specifications defined by the organisation.

Art. 12 - Costs and Responsibilities

Customs costs, shipping fees, insurance, transport and any other expenses related to physical or digital copies shall be borne by the producer or legal representative of the work. The organisation will be responsible for the safekeeping and storage of DCPs during the period they remain under official custody.

In the event of damage or loss during the festival’s custody period, compensation will be limited to the value declared by the producer, with no additional liability.

Art. 13 - Costs, Festival Attendance and Hospitality

FIACAFI may offer institutional hospitality support primarily to the director or producer of selected works, which may include travel, accommodation, meals and insurance, up to a maximum amount of €3,200, subject to budget availability and institutional criteria of the festival.

Filmmakers or producers benefiting from this support undertake to include the logos of FIACAFI and the supporting institution in the film’s end credits, and, whenever possible, to participate in official festival activities, including the opening ceremony (red carpet), screenings, audience discussions and media interviews.

Art. 14 - Authority of the Organisation

The FIACAFI organisation is the competent authority to deliberate on any exceptional circumstances related to the selection, programming or screening of works within the Francophonie Diversity Showcase.

All decisions of the organisation are final and not subject to appeal.

Art. 15 - Acceptance and Interpretation

Participation in the Francophonie Diversity Showcase implies full acceptance of these Regulations.

In the event of divergent interpretation, the Portuguese-language version shall prevail. These Regulations apply exclusively to the Francophonie Diversity Showcase within FIACAFI 2026.
